  • Uno Mas Bourbon SUPER in Stakes Debut

From the 2022 Bourbon Lane Stable Yearling Partnership, 3-year-old Uno Mas Bourbon  made a bold statement in his first stakes appearance, winning the 42nd running of the $250,000 Super Derby at Louisiana Downs, presented by Cypress Solar and Roofing. Co-owned by Bourbon Lane Stable and Six Column Stables, the talented colt showed both patience and power as he came from off the pace to earn his first stakes victory. After shipping in from Kentucky following a solid third-place finish in an allowance race at Ellis Park, Uno Mas Bourbon sat off the early speed, where The Donegal Clan  set brisk opening fractions of :23.83 and :48.32 for the first half-mile. Biding his time, Uno Mas Bourbon was unhurried, waiting for the perfect moment to make his move. As the field turned for home, jockey Francisco Arrieta expertly maneuvered Uno Mas Bourbon through a narrow opening between horses, unleashing an impressive burst of speed. He surged past the pacesetter, crossing the finish line 1¼ lengths  ahead as the slight 3-1 favorite. The final time for the 1 1/8-mile  race was 1:51.02  over a fast track. “He’s a nice horse,” Arrieta said. “When I rode him in Kentucky, we ran into a little trouble, but he still put in a great performance. Today, he was more relaxed, and once he found another gear, he took off. He ran a fantastic race.” Trained by Ian Wilkes, Uno Mas Bourbon is a 3-year-old colt by the recently deceased Macho Uno , out of the Harlan's Holiday  mare Camielee . With a record of 2-0-3 from eight starts and earnings of $219,745, he continues to build on the success of his connections. Bred in Kentucky by T/C Stable LLC, Uno Mas Bourbon was purchased for $75,000 by Six Column Stables and McMahon and Hill Bloodstock at the 2022 Keeneland September Yearling Sale, where he was consigned by Legacy Bloodstock. This Super Derby win showcases Bourbon Lane Stable’s commitment to building racing partnerships based on sound investment and talent. Bourbon Lane Stable’s focus on identifying quality yearlings has paid off, proving once again the value of their strategic partnerships. • Following in the Hoofprints of Bourbon Courage

This weekend, Bourbon Lane Stable's promising 3-year-old colt, Uno Mas Bourbon , takes center stage in the Super Derby  at Louisiana Downs. As we eagerly anticipate his performance, it’s hard not to reflect on one of Bourbon Lane’s all-time greats— Bourbon Courage , whose dominant victory in the 2012 Super Derby set the tone for a remarkable racing career. Bourbon Courage , a son of Lion Heart  out of Shine Forth  by Carson City , was purchased by bloodstock agents Mike McMahon  and Jamie Hill  at the 2010 Fasig-Tipton July Sale for just $15,000. What started as an unassuming yearling turned into one of the best investments in Bourbon Lane Stable's history. Bourbon Courage would go on to have an illustrious career, amassing over $1 million in earnings and becoming a staple in top-level racing across the country. In the 2012 Super Derby, Bourbon Courage burst onto the scene with a stunning victory, winning by a decisive 5 lengths. That performance launched him into a series of graded stakes races that would define his career. He made a total of 25 starts, with 18 of those being in graded stakes races, cementing his place as one of the most durable and consistent horses in Bourbon Lane's stable. His wins include the Grade 2 Super Derby , while notable placings include second in the Grade 1 Donn Handicap  and the Clark Handicap . What makes Bourbon Courage's story even more special is how he defied expectations. He was known for his toughness, versatility, and heart, always giving his best against top competition. A $15,000 purchase, he far outperformed his price tag, showcasing the incredible eye for talent that McMahon and Hill  bring to the table. Bourbon Courage’s career not only validated their expertise but also put Bourbon Lane Stable on the map for identifying value at yearling sales. As Uno Mas Bourbon prepares to follow in the hoofprints of this legacy, we can’t help but feel a sense of excitement and nostalgia. Like Bourbon Courage, Uno Mas Bourbon represents the very best of what Bourbon Lane Stable strives for—great horses, great people, and great bourbon. Contact Us Today!

At McMahon & Hill Bloodstock, these qualities are personified by its founders, Mike McMahon and Jamie Hill. Together, they have built a reputation for excellence, integrity, and innovation in the bloodstock industry. Meet Jamie Hill: Combining Tradition and Innovation Jamie Hill's journey into the thoroughbred world is deeply rooted in his family's rich legacy and his own innovative spirit. A graduate of Auburn University, Jamie represents the third generation of a family dedicated to horse racing. His family's notable achievement includes managing Seattle Slew, one of only two undefeated Triple Crown winners in history. From Wall Street to Thoroughbred Racing Jamie’s career began with a brief stint on Wall Street, but his heart was always with horses. Growing up on Long Island, he was drawn to the Belmont backside, where his passion for racing flourished. Moving to Kentucky, Jamie took on the role of business manager at Wintergreen Stallion Station, a significant player in central Kentucky’s racing and breeding scene. He also gained experience in insurance with Muirfield Insurance before partnering with Mike McMahon in 2011. Driving Success at McMahon and Hill Since forming McMahon and Hill Bloodstock LLC, Jamie's business acumen has been pivotal in transforming it into one of the busiest bloodstock agencies in the country. His strategic thinking and innovative approaches have greatly contributed to the firm’s success. A Bourbon Venture Jamie's entrepreneurial spirit extends beyond horse racing. In 2010, he joined friends in a budding bourbon venture, which evolved into the nationally recognized Pinhook Bourbon brand. This unique brand annually releases a bourbon and rye featuring a current Bourbon Lane racehorse on its label, blending Jamie’s passion for horses and bourbon. Community and Industry Contributions Jamie is deeply committed to giving back. • Aftercare Spotlight: Johannesbourbon

At Bourbon Lane Stable, aftercare for our retired racehorses is just as important as their time on the track. As we approach the Retired Racehorse Project’s Thoroughbred Makeover in October, we’re highlighting some of the incredible Thoroughbreds we've rehomed, thanks to the Bourbon Lane Stable Retirement Fund, Inc. This fund ensures that our off-the-track Thoroughbreds (OTTBs) receive the care they deserve in retirement. Meet Johanessbourbon Johannesbourbon showed exceptional talent as a 3-year-old, breaking his maiden by an impressive 9 3/4 lengths and competing in races like the G3 Coolmore Lexington Stakes. He placed in 9 of his 12 career starts but had to retire early due to a soundness issue. Today, Johannesbourbon enjoys a peaceful retirement at Old Friends Equine, where he’s cherished and loved. The Importance of Aftercare We’re committed to the aftercare of our OTTBs, ensuring they transition smoothly from the racetrack to retirement. Our partnership with organizations like Old Friends Equine and the Retired Racehorse Project reflects our dedication to promoting responsible horse ownership and providing the best care for our Thoroughbreds.
