  • First Purchase for the 2024 Bourbon Lane Stable 2 YO Partnership!

McMahon & Hill scored big on Day 1 of the Ocala Breeders' Sale (OBS) 2-year-old in training sale in Ocala, Florida - snagging a stellar NY-bred filly from Coastal Equine that we felt had one of the best works of the sale. She is by NY sire HONEST MISCHIEF, standing at Sequel Stallions, and is fully eligible for the NY Stallion Stakes series. Clocking an impressive 9 4/5, she is just a May foal and was the youngest to achieve this time in the sale. She still has room to improve and grow into her frame, and we think she is the real deal. She will get a month long vacation at WinStar Farm in Versailles, KY before heading to trainer Mark Hennig in New York. Big thank you to our loyal partners Maggie Seidman and the Hampsons for making big contributions allowing us to buy special horses like this. There is still room to join our 2024 partnership group, with a minimum investment of $10,000. Contact us today for more information and look out for this special filly on the New York racing circuit soon! Link to sale HIP NO. 243 HONEST MISCHIEF - FORGET IT (BAY F.) • 2024 Bourbon Lane Stable Stats - Through May

We are almost halfway through the 2024 racing season, but for Bourbon Lane, the Northern Hemisphere Racing season has really just started. This year, we shipped ONLY three horses to Florida and rested several over the Winter. The result, we hope, will be an exciting Summer. It has been great to see Uno Mas Bourbon get started again! Using the statistics available at www.ownerview.com, we have had only 27 starts in the Northern Hemisphere in 2024, with 3 wins, BUT a surprisingly strong in the money percentage of 44%. Our total earnings after the first five months of the year are $288,493. Those stats compete very well with other stables with 20-40 starts in 2024. Meanwhile, in the Southern Hemisphere, we are just entering Winter and we have had a great 2024, with 41 Starts, 10 wins, 6 seconds, and 5 thirds, good for $170,360. GLOBALLY, for the first five months of the year we have 68 total starts, with 13 wins, and with a total win percentage of 19% and an in the money percentage of 48.5% and total earnings of $448,850.00. Thank you to the partners who have joined the 2024 two year old partnership after the Maryland sale. We bought the third horse in Maryland, a NY bred colt by Instagrand. We have 10% left in this three horse partnership. Total value is $300,000. The minimum is $10,000 to join. Contact us quickly if you are considering joining the 2024 Bourbon Lane Stable Two Year Old LLC.

  • WINNER - UNO MAS BOURBON

We could not be more excited about Uno Mas Bourbon's dominant maiden-breaking victory for the 2022 Bourbon Lane Yearling Partnership, won on an off the turf, one turn mile maiden special at Churchill with a $120,000 purse! We felt pretty confident pre-race and we were a narrow favorite, possibly due to the Hernandez factor - our friend Derby winner Brian Hernandez was in the saddle! Brian broke Uno Mas well, kept a rail trip, split horses at the top of the stretch and “kicked away." The post-race comments were cautiously optimistic. “Never used the stick in the stretch. Just fanned it at him. He wanted to stop at the 1/16th pole but he kept on under his own. Just learning his job. Beat a bunch of grass horses. He was the only one who handled the slop.” We plan to keep him on the turf for his next start, targeting a big race at Kentucky Downs this fall if all continues to go well. Knowing that he can handle the slop gives us powerful options! Big thanks to Ian Wilkes and his team for a great training job, Brian Hernandez for an expert ride and congratulations to our partners! Uno Mas Bourbon was a $75,000 yearling purchase from Legacy Bloodstock at Keeneland September.

  • Bourbon Lane Partner Rick Gold to Receive TOC Chairman’s Award

We are thrilled to announce that one of Bourbon Lane Stable's original partners, Rick Gold, is being honored with a prestigious award. Rick, who was a part of our early success with Bourbon Courage, has been selected by the Thoroughbred Owners of California (TOC) as the 2024 recipient of the Ed Friendly Industry Service Award, also known as the TOC Chairman’s Award. This accolade is presented annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the Thoroughbred racing industry. Rick joins an illustrious list of past recipients, including Mace Siegel, John Harris, Bob and Beverly Lewis, Jerry and Ann Moss, and Mike Pegram. Rick is retiring this year after eight years of exceptional service to the TOC and other industry boards. His dedication, particularly as Chairman of TOC’s Integrity & Safety Committee, has been instrumental in advancing the welfare and integrity of horse racing. His efforts were crucial in protecting California and industry interests during the formation of the Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority (HISA). In addition to his administrative roles, Rick is a passionate and modern-day owner with significant investments in both California and Australia. Known for his collaborative approach, he often co-owns horses and supports smaller trainers and the broader racing community. Among his notable achievements are campaigning horses like Hit The Road, the Grade 1 winner of the 2021 Frank E. Kilroe Mile, and Athabascan, a recent contender in the Grade 1 Sydney Cup and a promising prospect for this year’s Melbourne Cup. TOC Chairman Gary Fenton remarked, “When I reflect on the distinguished individuals who have received this award in the past, I believe Rick belongs among their ranks. His unwavering dedication, leadership, and compassion exemplify the spirit of the Chairman's Award and embody the best of California racing.” Rick Gold will be honored at the TOC’s Southern California Annual Meeting at Del Mar on August 10. Please join us in celebrating this well-deserved recognition of his contributions to the sport we all love.
