The Keeneland September Sale was as busy as ever! Between selling pinhooks and homebreds and purchasing horses for two-year-old pinhooks, Bourbon Lane, and our bloodstock clients, we had a very busy, and exciting month.

Our September sales journey began as soon as we returned from Saratoga, where we spent three weeks visiting farms and getting an early look at hundreds of yearlings ahead of the sale. All that time on the road proved to be well worth it. It was during a visit to Gainesway, where Jamie and Mary viewed more than 60 yearlings, that they first spotted a lovely McKinzie colt. We continued to follow him throughout the sale and purchased him for the 2026 Bourbon Lane Yearling, LLC.

This classy colt by McKinzie was purchased for $190,000. He’s out of Skeptic, a Tiznow mare who won the G3 Monmouth Oaks.

McKinzie continues to establish himself as one of the leading young sires in the country, currently sitting third among his third-crop sire class and already represented by two sons at stud - multiple G1 winner Chancer McPatrick and G1 winner Baeza, who is set to enter stud in 2027.

This colt heads to Ocala Stud for pre-training before joining Ian Wilkes in Kentucky next year

He joins our New York-bred Arabian Lion filly, who is currently at Hidden Brook for pre-training and will head to Graham Motion in Maryland next year. We’re continuing to shop for more horses to round out what is shaping up to be a very exciting group, so stay tuned!

We were also delighted to purchase a lovely filly by freshman sire Up to the Mark for $150,000 for the 2025 M&H Pinhook, LLC and the 2026 M&H Pinhook, LLC in partnership with Hidden Brook FL.

Up to the Mark, a son of Not This Time, was the 2023 Eclipse Champion Turf Male, winning multiple G1 races and earning over $2.5 million on the track. His first yearlings have been well received at the sales this year, and we're excited to have a filly from his first crop joining our roster.

She is also a half-sister to a two-year-old filly by Golden Pal, who is currently in training with Graham Motion for Amerman Racing.

This filly joins our Nashville filly, purchased at the Fasig-Tipton New York-Bred Sale, and our Arabian Lion filly, purchased at the Fasig-Tipton July Sale.

In addition to our own sales and purchases, our McMahon & Hill Bloodstock clients Old Guys Rules and Old Gals Rules had a fantastic sale, adding both a colt and a filly to each partnership.

Old Gals Rules purchased a Volatile filly for $50,000 and a colt by hot freshman sire Jackie’s Warrior for $135,000. Old Guys Rules added an Essential Quality colt for $110,000 and a Forte filly for $100,000.

All four horses will be trained by Ian Wilkes, and we’re excited to follow their progress. We wish both partnerships the very best of luck with their new additions and look forward to seeing them on the track!
