Bourbon Notes delivered a determined performance to break her maiden at Gulfstream Park, digging deep in the final strides to get up by a head for trainer Ian Wilkes.
The 3-year-old filly settled just off the early pace before launching her run in the stretch, responding gamely to edge clear on the wire. It was a gritty effort that showed both maturity and determination as she finished strongly to secure the win.
Bourbon Notes was purchased for $100,000 at the OBS April Sale as part of our 2025 U.S. 2-Year-Old Partnership. After being lightly raced as a 2-year-old, she entered this season coming off a nearly four-month layoff. The time away appears to have done her well, allowing her to settle mentally and continue developing physically. She has trained forwardly since returning and showed that progress in the afternoon with this breakthrough performance.
She is by Charlatan, a Grade 1-winning son of Speightstown who captured both the Arkansas Derby and Malibu Stakes during his racing career. Known for his exceptional speed and brilliance on the track, Charlatan has generated strong interest as a young stallion, with his early runners beginning to make their presence felt. Bourbon Notes is out of Defy, a stakes-winning daughter of Into Mischief, one of the most influential sires in North America and a consistent leader on the general sire list.
Following the win, Bourbon Notes will ship back to Kentucky with the Ian Wilkes string as we begin planning for her next start this spring.
Congratulations to our partners Bourbon Lane Stable, Jim Gladden, and Old Guys Rule Racing Stable, and thank you to Ian Wilkes and his team for getting her to the winner’s circle.
Our Bourbon Lane 2026 U.S. 2-Year-Old Partnership is now open. If you are interested in joining the winning fun, contact us to learn more about getting involved.
