Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

About Bourbon Lane Stable
Q: What is Bourbon Lane Stable?
A: Bourbon Lane Stable is a racehorse ownership group offering individuals the opportunity to participate in the thrill of owning top-quality Thoroughbred racehorses through professionally managed partnerships in North America and New Zealand.
Q: Who manages Bourbon Lane Stable?
A: The stable is managed by Mike McMahon and Jamie Hill of McMahon & Hill Bloodstock, a respected team with decades of experience in the Thoroughbred industry.
Q: Where is Bourbon Lane based?
A: Our operations are based in Kentucky, but our horses compete at major tracks across the U.S. and internationally through our New Zealand partnerships.
Ownership & Partnerships
Q: How does ownership with Bourbon Lane Stable work?
A: We form racing partnerships where individuals can invest in a group of horses, each set up as their own LLC. Partners share in the expenses and earnings based on their ownership percentage.
Q: What’s the minimum investment to become a partner?
A: The minimum investment typically starts at $5,000 for the NZ partnerships and $10,000 for the US partnerships, though it may vary for co-ownership groups.
Q: Do I get to choose which horses I invest in?
A: When you join a partnership, you are investing in a group of horses selected by our team for that specific LLC (e.g., U.S. 2YOs, New Zealand Yearlings).
Q: Will I own a percentage of the horse?
A: Yes, as a partner, you own a pro-rata share of each horse in the partnership based on your investment level.
What You Get as a Partner
Q: What do I receive as a partner in the stable?
A: Partners receive regular updates, access to the barns and racetrack on race days, invitations to exclusive events, and a share in the potential earnings from racing and sales.
Q: Can I visit the horses?
A: Absolutely! We encourage partners to visit the barn and attend races. Our team will coordinate visits when possible.
Q: How are updates communicated to partners?
A: We send frequent email updates, including race previews, results, photos, and videos. Partners also have direct access to the management team for questions, and frequent, live updates through the StableConnect app.
Costs & Earnings
Q: What costs are involved besides the initial investment?
A: It is expected that the initial capital contributions by partners will be sufficient to cover the purchase of the Thoroughbreds and expenses through December 31 of the partnership calendar year.
Q: How are earnings distributed?
A: Earnings from races and any sales proceeds are distributed to partners based on their ownership percentage, typically on a quarterly basis.
Q: Can I make money by joining a racing partnership?
A: While racing partnerships carry some risk like any investment, our team takes a proactive, strategic approach to horse selection, placement, and management to maximize both racing success and potential financial returns.
International Partnerships
Q: What is Bourbon Lane NZ?
A: Bourbon Lane NZ is our international division, offering racing partnerships with horses based in New Zealand with leading trainer Stephen Marsh. It’s a unique opportunity to participate in racing abroad.
Q: Can I be involved in both U.S. and New Zealand partnerships?
A: Yes! Many of our partners enjoy being part of both programs.
