In 2011 Jamie Hill purchased a fifty percent interest in Michael McMahon’s firm McMahon Bloodstock LLC which had been founded in 2001. The firm became McMahon & Hill Bloodstock LLC. Our major products/services include racing and bloodstock portfolio management, and our public racing and pinhooking partnerships. We also sell and buy breeding contracts and equine insurance.
McMahon & Hill Bloodstock is unique in our industry. Our business is dominated by risk takers who view clients with a short term vision. Our conservative approach, demonstrated by our average purchase point, is flattered by our success at finding graded stakes horses and profitable buys.
While many of our customers are financially secure, we serve the entry level investors to the industry through our zero markup LLC partnerships like Bourbon Lane Racing Stable and the Spruce Lane Pinhook. We believe that we can grow our business and our industry by offering entry level players a fair deal. Further, we have raised our profile by partnering on the release of a small batch bourbon named “Pinhook, Straight Bourbon Whiskey“. Each batch is named after one of our marquee Bourbon Lane Stable equine athletes and follows them through their racing career.

Entrepreneurship is natural in our industry and salary jobs are rare. While at Cornell University Mike studied entrepreneurship and after a five year stint with leading thoroughbred consulting agency Equix Biomechanics, decided to start his own business in 2001. Quick success followed including; successful management of a $1m fund, purchase of numerous nationally known race horses and a $200k purchase who we resold for $725k in less than a year’s time.
The world financial market collapse forced the rebranding of the already successful racing partnership as “Bourbon Lane Stable” and the shift of the Pinhook LLC’s purchase point from the yearling market to the weanling market.
In 2009 Jamie joined the firm and by 2010 had decided he was ready to grow the business as an equity partner. He had already successfully helped to launch Wintergreen Stallion Station and several new stallions. McMahon and Hill had been friends and business associates for many years and the two decided to partner and grow McMahon’s business. Immediate success followed.
Jamie grew the partnership business dramatically, allowing Mike to focus on clients with valuable portfolios. Equine insurance was offered for the first time and success followed on the race track and the sales ring. Today the company looks to raise our profile even higher with the second release of our nationally known small batch bourbon “Pinhook”.
McMahon & Hill Bloodstock is a leader in the thoroughbred community. Mike is President of the Thoroughbred Charities of America and sits on the board of the Thoroughbred Owners and Breeders Association. He is a past president of the NY Breeders and a past Vice President of the Belmont Child Care Assn. Jamie currently is a board member of the Consignor and Breeders Association.
We sponsor several charities, including local schools, events on the Bourbon Trail and of course the Thoroughbred Charities of America. TCA is a 501 (c) (3) organization which basically is a “United Way” for the thoroughbred industry. The TCA awards grants to worthy Thoroughbred related charities. Over the past 28 years TCA has provided over $23 million grants to more than 200 Thoroughbred-related organizations. www.tca.org
