First stakes winner for Super Saver

Hashtag Bourbon strode to a dominating 4 1/2-length victory in the $100,000 Mountaineer Juvenile to become freshman sire Super Saver’s first black-type winner and fourth overall.

The victory vaulted Super Saver, the 2010 Kentucky Derby (G1) winner, to the top of the First-Crop Sire list.

Last of seven early on in the six furlong contest, Hashtag Bourbon started to make up ground after a quarter mile, then quickly assumed command with two furlongs to go, ultimately drawing clear in the stretch to stop the clock in 1:11.45 on a fast track (VIDEO).

Third in his debut June 28 at Churchill Downs after stumbling at the break, the Kellyn Gorder trainee picked up $61,600 for Saturday’s win. He is owned by Bourbon Lane Stable.

A $130,000 auction buy at the OBS March Select 2-year-old sale. The bay colt is out of Waltzing With Deb, a half-sister to multiple Grade 3 winner Suave Prospect
